Hi Paul
I have been trying to find a record of my ggrandad for almost 4yrs now and have hit a brick wall.
My ggranddad was called Denis Scannell born c1860s, died c1952/3. I know almost next to nothing about him. I have been told that he was possibly from Killorglin, Kenmare, or Cromane/cromone. he married Catherine (Kit) Shanahan from either Ballyheigue or Boherbeigh.
He named one of his sons Jeremiah after a family member, possibly his father, and the name Mary McCarthy has been mentioned, so this could probably be his mum. it is all supposition on our part, but we do know that Catherine was laid to rest in McCarthys tomb in the old Abbeydornay cemetary in Kerry. Do these names mean anything to you? I can't seem to find any records of him, and with the small amount of info I have I can't obtain a certificate of his birth, its all so frustrating.
regards Irene
