Hello John
Don't know if this is of any use to you. I married into the Scarth family in 1986. From the little I know about the family history there are cousins living in the States. My father in law was born in 1937 in Liverpool, we live on Merseyside and my husband has two brothers also living on Merseyside. My father in law has three sisters living in England. There is a connection in the family with another unusual surname, that of Eames (father in laws Great uncle on his father side) and there are also relatives in the States. The surname of Scarth is uncommon in this area and the few mentioned in the phone book are related. Did you know that the name is supposed to have come from a family who settled in Orkney in Scotland, from Norway in the 15th century? And the motto for the name is "Vorlando reptilia sperno (Translation = Flying myself I despise creeping things)
