Have just started researching a new branch of my family (Scarths). I think Ruth Scarth born 1808 was my grandmother's grandmother.

I have some history that my grandmother wrote before her death in February of this year, which is very muddled, so I am at the moment wading through it, but there is definite mention of Woodkirk, Morley, Leeds and Orkney.

There is an embroidery sampler that my grandmother used to own by Ruth Scarth, which she bequeathed to Abbey House Museum in Leeds on her death. This hung for many years on her wall at her home, and I have only just now realised the significance! Ruth Scarth married Joseph Butterfield, and my grandmother was Harriet Anne Butterfield.

Anything you can do to help sort out the muddle that I have at present would be appreciated. I can let you know what my grandmother wrote, but it is quite confused, and you never know, we could be distant cousins (have found so many over the web doing genealogy!).

Look forward to hearing from you!

Fran Kaye
