I'm helping a friend trace her roots...her great grandmother was Mary / Maria Shaffer who married Parker McMichael in 1878 in Iowah. Maria had a brother, at the time of her death in 1942, named John Shaeffer living in Salt lake city.
In the 1925 Iowa Census Mary's parents are listed as John Schaffer and Laurna Strouse(in her obituary they are listed as William and Lavina!)both born in PA...I have found your Shaffer family in census records...and one of its members, John D. Shaffer, was living in Salt Lake city. I know he had a sister, Maria, who was born around 1849 and is in the 1850 Pennsylvania census.
The Mary/Maria I'm looking for, used a different date of birth for every census, but consistantly said she was born in Ohio. I know that your family moved to Ohio and had several children there. Do you know if any family members moved to Iowa?
Do you have any information about what happened to your Maria? Is it possible these could be the same person?
Thank you for any information you can share.
Janice
