Hi Stacey,

To my understanding the orginal spelling of Scheid was Scheidt. It sounds like your family decided to return to the orginal spelling of the name.

My family came form Reisweiler, Bavaria, Germany. Reisweiler is now called Reisbach and belongs to the parish of Saarwellingen in the county of Saarland. This area once belong to Bavaria but was in a completely different area from what is todays Bavaria. It now belongs to Germany.

So far we have been able to trace my family to a Nicholas Scheid who married Catherine Liegenbueler. They had a son Jacob born on 12/8/1830 who immigrated to America in 1852 at first settling in Lorain, Oh then in 1854 moving to Kalamazoo, MI which is where my branch comes in. Jacob immigrated with a brother but so far we have had no luck finding out his name or where he ended up.

Maybe some of this will sound familar to someone in your family. I do have some other information if it does.

Pam
