scheiding is there a connection?

we are having a heck of time tracking where my grandfather came from. his name was llyod scheiding he died in the 1970,s. all we know is that thier last name was changed a bit (we think)and that his parents came from germany. he might have came here too but we are unsure of were he was born. my question is there any history of scheids changing there name to scheiding?
