I can't say for certain that it is not Scheidt but in my own research I found my ggggrandfathers name spelled Scheidt a few times after moving to America but his church records in germany show it as Scheid then later records here in America again spell it Scheid. Like his records when landing in America show Scheidt. Anyways, I would keep an eye out for Scheid and Scheidt.
I know it is such a pain but since they came from Germany and did not know how to read, write, or speak English things were very mixed up and if the person keeping the records did not speak, write, or read Germany they put what they wanted to put down.
My Scheids went to a town in IL with a large population of Germans but had English priests. They kept very good records for the time, but even then they changed the spelling tons of times. The same parents may have childrens whose birth records show diferent spellings of the same name. One kid may be Scheid then one Schaid, or Scheidt. In fact I have a whole line of cousins that spell the name Schaid to this day. I also have Mueller which could be spelled Muller, or Miller. Then Justin which I have found spelled Huston or Hustin. I could go on and on with the spellings.
My best advice would be keep everything, anything that seems like it might fit no matter the spelling write it down or copy it and keep it. A number of times I have written things down that seemed to maybe fit and gone back months later when I had more information and made a connection.
That was how I found the records in Germany for my George Scheid. I found a record for Georguis Carolus Scheid copied the info and went on. After a few months went back and researched the name and found it had the same birthdate and 2 of the same kids with their birthdates that matched info I now had on my George Scheid. So you never know.
Well hope this helps and good luck.
Wow did not mean to post so much, LOL
