Is Swesserer the same as Scherrer?

In 1852 a George "Swesserer" married Nancy Blankenship in Franklin Co. Mo. No information about George has been handed down in Blankenship family stories. "Swesserer" is how the surname was spelled in the marriage records but I am thinking that it was misspelled or spelled phonicly by the preacher that married the couple. Can anyone assist me?
