There is a big pocket of Schlee/Schlehs in the Black Forest of Germany. If your Frederick emmigrated out of Wuerttemberg, you might possibly find him in this book:
"Wuerttemberg Emmigration Index"
If he is listed then you will find his birth date and birth place and a film number with information on his parents.
