My mother, Marie Schleis, was born in Manitowoc Wisconsin (near GreenBay) in 1926 to Peter Emmanuel Schleis and Marie Augustine, both born in the same Manitowoc-Green Bay-Antigo area in 1904. FAmily rumor has it that the family immigrated from Prague and we call that branch of the family "Bohemian". they were mainly farmers. I have asked an aunt who keeps track of the family to send me more information. If you would like, I can send it to you.
On my grandparents' church marriage certificate the last name is listed as "Slaj" or something similar and it is written in Bohemian.
