Eric Fritz Schlesinger: Berlin> New York
I'm not sure of any dates or even the accuracy of much of this information which I am sure is full of holes but maybe it will help someone find what they are looking for and maybe it will open up some areas for myself. As far as I know my grandfather's family (Schlesinger) where horse breeders in or near Berlin and my grandmother's family (Wolf) were leather smiths who specialized in saddles and through that connection both families were associated.I am told that my great grandfather, Stanislause (sp.?) Schlesinger, was Kaiser Wilhelm's wife's personal bodyguard. My grandfather, Eric Fritz Schlesinger, eventually married my grandmother, Erica Wolf, and had a one son (my father, name protected for anonymity), born in Berlin around the end of WW2 and then came to America shortly after the war.I am told that my Jewish grandfather was interned in forced labor during the war (no mention ever of concentration camps) and it is my understanding that many Berlin Jews, because of social status and what have you, were spared the camps especially if they were married to a gentile and since my grandmother was a Catholic (my father being baptized Catholic for obvious reason) this makes some sense.I am told further that all other relatives on the Schlesinger side were killed during the war. After coming to the US, by way of the efforts of a Jewish organization so I am told, my grandparents and father were assimilated into New York City's "German Town" and the rest is history. If anyone has any questions or anything to add to this feel free to contact me at [email protected]
Sincerely,
AndrŽ Peter Schlesinger
