This may or may not be your Christian. While attempting to find Naturalization papers on my gggf Henry Schmidt in Savannah & Augusta, GA came across:
Christian Schmidt, Naturalization papers
Oath Administered 10 May 1858 in Savannah, Chatham Co, GA Minute Book I, p 118.
He arrived in New York on 7 April 1851, made declaration of intention at New York in Common Court of Pleas, 9 Jan 1854 swearing to renounce allegiance to King of Bavaria.
He came to State of Georgia in 1855 and had resided there since and resided in US for at least the five years required.
Vouchers for him:Robert Straus (? could be Strans, but think it Straus) and Mathias Meyer.Affidavit signed by them, 10 May 1858
In 1860 US census,p. 165, line 33, one Christian Schmidt, age 30, listed living in Savannah Hotel, occupation: shoemaker, b. in "Bavaria, Germany".
