Nope wrong schmitz.Although I am going to look into deeper. I have over 1000 people with the Schmitz tree and I still can't find anything before 1859.The family came here on the Saxony in August 1859.The strange part is he signed on the ship register as JWC Schmitz. Here he was known as Carl.He married Wilhelmine Weber in Prussia. In LDS it only shows them and their children who came with them from Soligen, Rheinland Preussen. The children Robert 1852, Albert 1854, Rudolph 1858, and Bertha 1856. I keep wondering if they changed their names when they came here. The cool part is my gggrandfather Carl moved here and built his house in 1860, unfortunately it burnt down around 1964.
But his son built a house across the road from his around 1880, it is still there and it is still owned by a Schmitz.
I just found all this out last fall because I just started on this side of the family.I went there and met the lady its a long 10 miles from my house.I wish they were related but not so far as I can see.Carl was born 11/23/1822 but I cannot find any more info about his parents or siblings. Thanks again for responding
