Hi ! I know Schneider is quite a common name in Prussia and germany : my information is that my own ancestors left prussia in the early 1840s bound either for the US or for Brazil , and wound up in Dunkirk following a wreck (or marooning) and were sent to Algeria (then a new French territory ) and eventually settled there where we stayed until the independence of Algeria in 1962.
Two villages were peopled by the offspring of the passengers of that ill_fated trip to America : La Stidia and sainte Léonie . All archives are unavailable at the moment owing to the poor quality of relationship between the algerian and French governments ....
Bye for now !
Ed
