Greetings to all of you from Indianapolis.

I've been trying to solve a difficult/brick-wall name problem. I have an ancestor, Nicholas FEG/FEGG that was born in 1648 in Idar, Germany. His father is listed as Johannes SCHNEIDER; some places his name is shown as Johannes SCHNEIDER-FEG. Does anybody know about this family connection, and why two different surnames for father and son? Could it have been a case of adoption?

I would appreciate any info that you can provide.
