My ancestor Victor Schneider was in the 28th OVI/Civil War. I understand he was a recent immigrant. His wife was Anna. I think he was in Aurora Indiana to begin with then moved to Hamilton or Cincinnati, Ohio. I can find no records of children's baptisms which leads me to believe he might have been Jewish.
