Obituary (1940) - St. Charles County, Missouri: Anton Schneider Passed Away Sunday Night - West Known Citizen of West Highlands Was Buried Wednesday Morning. Anton Schneider, an old and highly respected citizen of St. Charles, died at his home at 1800 Trendley avenue Sunday night, May 5, 1940, aged 81 years, 11 months and 9 days. The funeral was held from Dallmeyer's funeral home Wednesday morning and at 10 o'clock at the St. Peters Catholic Church and burial made in the family lot of the parish cemetery. Mr. Schneider was in Germany and came to St. Charles when 19 years old. He had resided here since and he was employed at the local car works for over 45 years. His wife died on January 5, exactly 4 months ago from the day of his death. His daughter, Mrs. J. Rapier Hayden died at Denison, Texas, on January 10th, and his daughter Mrs. Charles Mudge was stricken with illness a week later and has been in St. Louis hospital ever since. All this sorrow preyed upon him and this and his advanced age and non-employment proved too much for him to bear. He was a member of the Married Men's Sodality Catholic Knights of America and the Benevolent Society of St. Peter's Church. His surviving children are Frank of this city and Ollie and Joe of Detroit, Michigan, Miss Tillie Schneider, Mrs. Joe Reeves, Mrs. Charles Mudge, and Mrs. Charles L. Dietz of this city, 20 grandchildren and six great grandchildren, also his brother-in-law Ben Weber of Fowler, Kansas, his sister-in-law Mrs. Mary Boschert of near St. Peters and many other relatives. Mr. Schneider had been in poor health ever since the death of his wife but he was bedfast only three days. At the end, which came rather unexpectedly he was surrounded by a number of his loving relatives. He was conscious until the end, had no pain and peacefully passed away to his reward beyond. Friends of the family, including the Cosmos-Monitor, extend sympathy to the family, which has undergone so much grief in the last four months time. Obituary (1940) - St. Charles County, Missouri: The funeral and requiem highmass of Anton Schneider, a well known and highly respected resident of St. Charles who died Sunday night at his residence at 1800 Trendley avenue, aged 81 years, 11 months and 9 days, was held at the St. Peter's German Catholic Church at 10 o'clock this morning and the interment made in the family lot in the parish cemetery. Rev. Father A. Behrman, assistant pastor officiating at the alter and Rev. A. T. Strauss, pastor, conducted the services at the grave. Six grandsons served as pallbearers. The main thought emphasized in Father Behrman's sermon was that the deceased had gained the great victory of life on this earth, he had lived a Christian life and was now gone to his reward of eternal life and peace in heaven. Mr. Schneider came to St. Charles from Germany when he was 19 years old and had resided in St. Charles for 62 years. He was employed at the local car works for 45 years, and was foreman of the pipe fitters for many years. Please contact me if you wany additional information.
