At Diamond Springs, El Dorado county, May 4th, of hepatic abscess, Anna Maria Sophia, wife of John SCHNEIDER, in her 48d year. [The subject of this notice was a native of Bavaria, but was for many years a resident of Quincy, State of Illinois, from whence she, with her husband and son, emigrated to California in 1852, and settled in this place in the Fall of that year, where they have resided since up to the time of her death. During her residence here the deceased, by her kind, generous and amiable disposition, her many social and Christian virtues and her uniformly unexceptionable deportment, succeeded incompletely gaining the confidence and esteem of all who knew her. But "the ways of Providence are truly mysterious." The Angel of Death, when least expected, arrived with the fatal summons, and she, who was but yesterday blooming in health, has been forced to succumb to that decree from which there is no appeal, and to cancel that debt which we will all be called upon to pay sooner or later. The thousand strong cords of love which bound her to this earth, could not detain her spirit from its upward flight. She has taken her departure for "that
undiscovered country from whose bourne no traveler has returned."
Her death has cast gloom and sorrow over the hearts of her many friends, and, indeed, thrown a dark cloud over the whole community. It would be unjust to invade the sanctity of their sorrow by words of attempted consolation.
Her soul, of origin divine,
God's glorious image, freed from clay,
In Heaven's eternal sphere shall shine,
A star of day."
