Greetings Schneider Researchers!
I just thought I'd take a minute to post a brief update on the Schneider (and variants) Y-DNA Project. For those not familiar with it, the project provides a mechanism connecting Schneider lines with the use of DNA collected via mouth swabs from male Schneiders.
Right now, we have 35 active members of the projects. As would be expected with such a common name, we still have many unique Schneider lines with no near-term connections to one another. We are, however, just now starting to see some "random hits" where researchers are joining the project and finding that their DNA matches a line that's already been tested. This can help researchers work towards a connection with the other line. Unfortunately we've also had a case where the DNA results did not support a researcher's paper trail resulting in some head-scratching.
One line, the Jacob Snider of Baden, Germany line, has five descendants now tested and one in process. This is mostly due to the efforts of one descendant who has been organizing the testing of other believed descendants. Kudos to him for building this legacy!
In addition, several Pennsylvania Deutsch lines are tested now, as well as lines from seven other countries besides Germany. Our Schneiders are definitely spread far and wide with a wide variety of haplogroups (anthropological roots).
