Patricia - Thanks for your reply. Johanne Schneider, my husband's gr.gr.grandfather was married to Walburga Krieg. She came to the US in 1848 (have ship info)I believe to Chicago as that is where they were married. I guess I don't know who her family was, but after he died in 1867 she took her kids from Winona back to Chicago for about 3 years until 1870 when they all returned to Winona, so assume she had relatives there to help with her small kids.
She had a brother names Nicholas I do know from some court records (he was admin.for estate of Johanes. Could dig further in Winona if you are interested. Let me know.
