Christoph or Julius Schneider L'ville,KY

My husband's father has documents tracking the following: My husband's gr-grandfather was Christoph Schneider b March 26, 1824 in the district of Kaiserslautern, state of Rheinland Pfalz. He served in the 6th Infantry Regiment, Royal Bavarian Army from 20 Mar 1847-20 Mar 1853. He traveled from LeHavre, France to New Orleans in the company of 2 adults, 1 child and 1 infant in 1858 on a ship of the Chrystie, Schlossmann, & Co firm. He settled in Louisville, Ky and was granted citizenship in 1868 at the age of 44. The next piece of paperwork skips to Julius Schneider, and his marriage to Mamie (although my mother-in-law swears it was Mary) Licker, and his discharge from the U.S.Army. A baby book cites Julius's birth as 10 April 1889. I am STUCK! I can find no trace of Christoph prior to his immigration, I have no idea who his spouse was, if she traveled with him, who his parents were, if he had siblings or even where Julius was born. I can't find any ship's records that support the passenger manifest document, no censuses that record him, no military records that report him, nothing, nada. Yet I have all the documents to support. Can anyone help? I'd be eternally grateful.
