John:I am interested in your William Scholl. The following is from my reading of Draper Manuscript 23C104.There are a few words I can't make out.
From Mrs Rachel Denton (71 yr.. Old March '44)
Late in '79 Wm Scholl & family went from Shernandoah Co Va - & reached Boonesboro on Christmas day & there eat their last bread until raised it 80 - went that spring to Louisville, then called Clarkville to by (sic) seed corn. That same day (25th Dec '79) Scholl's & Boone's family passed over Ky river about 4 miles Boone killed a young Buffalo (?) & camped & cooked this(?) fine beef:Next day 26th Dec. struck camp at Boone's Station 8 mi from Boonesboro.Snow on(?) the ground; after a little erected half-faced camps made of boards & forked sticks - in March(?) the(?) snow(?) went off(?) (from Dec to March never melted off) & then erected cabins & stockaded with port holes - but soon was attacked horses stolen accadentaly(?) - Soon after Boone & his (?) Scholl took up Camp. They were joined(?) by three or 4 other families Edward & Saml(?) Boone's among them that cold winter (?) (?) Buffalo, bear, deer & turkey - all very lean & poor from the severity of the winter & the sleet-covered condition of the cane; but such as it was Boone & his friends furnished a good supply.
Rachel Denton was William Scholl's daughter.I am interested in a Scholl/Boone connection. One writer refers to three of William's sons as Daniel Boone's cousins.Do you know what the connect is? - Wilson
