Hi my maiden name was Shoner. My Great grand-father George Shoner came to this country around 1851 at the age of thirteen from Bavaria, Germany. The story was that he came to work on the Erie Canal but was mistreated and ran away. He settled first in northern Ohio then Indiana. In his biography it says he came with a group of a dozen or so. I found him and I presume a brother Frederick Shoner in the census of 1860 in Defiance County, Ohio. And I found a sister that lived in Archbold, Ohio, she was married to an August Fraas. Do you think there is a connection ???
