Mary-
Thanks for your input!Yes, I have more or less ruled this Joseph out since I have been in touch with a couple of researchers whom I would call "Christopher experts."There were actually two Christopher Schoonovers in PA in the early census and because of their migration patterns I think they are not likely to be direct relatives to my line.
Christopher #1, b.3 Nov 1763 -m-bef 1788 to Mary "Polly" Pritchard and settled in Tioga Co, PA. They do not ppear to have had a son Joseph nor do I see a gap in their children where he might fit. They seem to be confined to Lycoming and Tioga Co, PA.
Christopher #2 (Christopher Krom or Crumb) b.May 1762 -m- Jane Chandler and settled in the northern part of Luzerne Co, then went onto Bradford. He was in Tippecanoe, IN by 1829 and did have a son Joseph b.abt 1784.But this Joseph seems to vanish into thin air and the researchers I have corresponded with think he may have died young or moved out of the area entirely, though there don't seem to be many "loose" Josephs out there from this time period. He is only mentioned in one source and one researcher thinks he may never have existed.
At this point I am trusting the solid research I have seen done on these Christophers which seems to eliminate them from the running, however I suppose they are always still a possibility.
I'm leaning heavily towards Henry Ezekiel and Thomas because of their location and number of eligible males in their census listings.Ezekiel was in Delaware, PA which is close to Stroud Twp. where Joseph was listed in 1820 and 1830. Henry was in Hanover Twp. which is adjacent to Plymouth Twp. where Joseph was living in 1840, perhaps on land he had inherited from his father.
Again, thanks for your reply.
Dan
