(05/14/2002)Milburn Carl Schubert was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 11, 2002. He was born in Bishop, Texas, on November 25, 1925. His family moved to Kingsville, Texas, in 1936. From 1944 to 1946, he served in the military as a combat infantryman in Belgium and Germany in 1945, with the 69th Infantry Division, which was the first unit to link up with Russian forces. He was honorably discharged with two Bronze Stars, and other medals. In 1946, he returned to Kingsville, Texas and completed studies for an BBA at Texas A&I University. On May 29, 1949, he was united in marriage to Virginia Woelfel of Kingsville. Milburn was employed at Heard & Heard, Inc. of Refuglo, Texas, from 1961 to 1987. In 1967, the family moved to Portland, Texas, where he was employed by Berry Contracting of Corpus Christi. He then moved his family to Austin, Texas, in 1974, where he became the Chief Fiscal Officer of the Texas District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod until retiring in 1993. Milburn has resided in Austin for the past 28 years. He was a faithful member of Hope Lutheran Church. Civic Organizations he participated in were the Lions Club, the American Cancer Society, the VFW and the Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Virginia Woelfel Schubert, and his parents, Alvin and Alvina Schubert. Milburn is survived by his four children, Ruth Ann Jones and her husband, Whitney of McAllen, Dr. Richard Schubert and his wife, Dr Linda Bussey of Dallas, Marion Heckmann and her husband, Duane of Houston, and Mark Schubert and his wife, Jennifer of Austin. He was blessed with nine grandchildren, Allison and Reagan Jones of McAllen, Morgan Jones of Houston, Joanna, Brandon and Scott Schubert all of Dallas, Holly and Grace Heckmann, both of Houston and Lily Schubert of Austin. He is also survived by one sister, LaVerne Cude and her husband, Bob of Arlington; and two brothers, Edward Schubert and his wife, Elsie of Kingsville, and Alvin Schubert and his wife, Margaret of Fair Oaks Ranch; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2002, at Cook-Walden Funeral Home. Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at Hope Lutheran Church, 6414 N. Hampton, Austin, Texas 78723. The family offers special thanks and appreciation to the staff at Barton House
