Schubert from Eastern Germany or Schelsien

I am trying to find information about my father's (Rudolf born 1928) parents and ancestry. I don't know my grandfathers fist name but it may have been Karl and was KIA in WWII in Russia. His mother's name was Dorothea or Dorathea. She remarried and had a daughter. My father had an uncle who's first name was Olaf (Olav) and I think another uncle had a last name of Kilian of Kilien and painted as a hobby. My father mentioned living on his parents' farm and also that he almost drowned in the Elbe river once as a child. He lived with an uncle for a while who had a butcher shop or bakery possibly right after or during the war and then moved to Frankfurt. I have heard of possible locations from him as Dresden and another relative as Namslau in Schlesien as possible pre-war residences. He was vary quiet about his childhood as there was a big falling out with his mother. My father was the first to come to the US as far as I know. Any information would be helpful.
