Rudolph Schulte born Wayne Co Michigan 1852

Rudolph Schulte stated to have been born Detroit, Michigan, on 1 Nov, 1852. He married Josephine Greiner on 15 April, 1879. Rudolph died 16 Jan, 1938 at Marlette, Mich. Rudolph and Josephine had Eva Louise, Andrew Joseph, Margaret Mary, George Rudolph, Edward Ignatius, Patronella Cecelia, Josephine Angela, Eleanor Agnes, Joseph, Mary Josephine, Katherine Mary, Leonore Antoinette, and Rose Genevieve. Although Rudolph was born in Michigan in 1852, I do not see him in the 1860 or 1870 censuses. On the 1880 Census for Hamtramck, Wayne County, Mich, he appears aged 28, born Michigan, parents born Prussia. His wife Josephine is listed, too. The only other person in his household on this census is his mother, Catherine, a widow, born 1818 in Prussia. Some of the sons moved to Sand Beach Township in Harbor Beach, Huron County, Michigan, where they became farmers. Does anyone know anything about Rudolph's background?
