Schuman Family from Mecklenburg, Wassentin?
Hi, I have several Schomann's that came over on the sail ship Rhein from Hamburg, left port 1 Sep 1857 and Arrived New York port on 6 Oct 1857. Theyalso came with some Kruse's and Kieckbech's according to the ship manifest and the "Germans To America" CD.
These from Wassentin? or Gassentin?
Phillip Schomann age 42
Catherine, age 41
Carl, age 7
Herman, age 5
Caroline, age 2
Ludwig, 8 months
Fr. Kieckbech, 33
Anna, 29
Ernastine, 9
Ernst, 6
Martin, 3
Jacob Kruse, 47
Doris, 40
Ernst, 17
Auguste, 15
Wilhelm, 10 months
These Kruse showing from Krassow and Warkenhagen
Johann Kruse, 26
Elise, 25
Herman, 2
Sophie, 25
Friederike, 25
The Kruses migrated to Sidney, Cheyenne County, Nebraska. I know nothing of the wherebouts of these other families.
The big question is the town is hard to make out and looks like Wassentin. It could be Gassentin, or ? The first letter is the question (?assentin)
Please let me know if these Schomanns or Kieckbechs are anybodys and the town in Germany if anyone has a clue. I have already searched in most of thetown locators and the closest was Passentin in Meck-Strelitz near Neu Brandenburg. The other Kruse on the same ship have towns of Krassow andWarkenhagen which are between Guestrow and Teterow, Mecklenburg-Vorp. Since the other Kruses are listed next to them on the ship manifest, I thoughtthey would have come from the same area around Warkenhagen and Krassow, but have not found a town like "Wassentin" nearby, except the Passentin town further away.
