Dear Steve,
As far as I know, Schwegel is not a misspelling. I've been told it means "flute player" or "spoon handle", but I've not been able to confirm either with the German dictionary that I have. There are some Schwegel's in Germany, too. Many people confuse our name with "Schlegel" which is a common Amish name. A schlegel is a threshing tool something like the oriental numchucks (sp?).

By all means, post the Schwengel history or send it to me at patwoodruff@mac.com!

The Schwegel family tree keeps repeating the same names: Adam, Nicholas, Jacob, Otto, and Michael. I don't know if this is simply a german tendency towards these names (like the Irish who only have 10 names for children James, John, Margaret, Ellen...).
