A biography of Albert E. Schwingel is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 3, pages 832 and 833.
Albert was born, 19 Aug 1876, the youngest of 11 children of John A. and Mary (Miller) Schwingel. His father, John, was born in Germany and died in 1905, age 72; his mother, Mary, was born in Chicago and died in 1913, age 72. At age 13, John A. Schwingel came with his widowed mother to the US and finished his education in Stueben Co., NY, and spent his life as a farmer.
Albert was educated in Steuben County and became a teacher at age 18 - 21. After completing a course at a commerical college in Corning, NY, he worked as a stenographer for a manufacturing firm in New York City, lived for one summer at Amsterdam, NY, then went to Lima, OH, where he was employed by the Cincinnati, Hamilton, and Dayton railway for two years. He became a private in the Ohio National Guard. In May 1900, Albert went to work at Great Falls, MT, in the transportation department of the Great Northern Railway. In Aug 1900, he left the railway to join the Conrad Banking Company at Great Falls, where he first worked as a stenographer and messenger. With steady promotions he was made chief clerk, then assistant cashier, in 1905 became cashier, and was made vice president in 1913.
On 24 Sep 1902, Geneseo, NY, Albert married Miss Mabel C. Burley, daughter of William Burley. Schwingel children: Milton Frederick, b. 4 Aug 1903; Burley Carlyle, b. 13 May 1907.
