It's very possible your John J. was Johann Jakob Schwingel, b. 22 Oct. 1837 in Remmesweiler (Saarland) to Johann Valentin Schwingel and his wife Maria Elisabetha Schwingel geb.(born) Hell, both also born in Remmesweiler. Both parents are said to have died in America. If this is the right man, he would have had possibly three elder sisters named Anna Maria, Elisabeth and Maria. The SCHWINGEL line continues for another nine generations in Remmesweiler beyond the father (Johann Valentin) to one Jakob Schwengell who was on a 1537 tax list (Fräuleinsteuer von 1537). The HELL line continues for another six generations in Remmesweiler beyond the mother (Maria Elisabetha) to one Lampert Höll whose grandson was born there in 1659. Interestingly, but probably not surprisingly, Johann Valentin and his wife were related as 4th cousins once removed -- both being descendants of Michael Schwingel and Anna Heitz, the stem family of SCHWINGELs in Remmesweiler and neighboring villages. You might wish to invest a little money with a professional genealogist for the Pittsburgh area to see if a positive identification can be made.…
