I know that this is an old post, but perhaps you are still out there and can help. I am also descended from Jacob Scofield born 1741 son of Josiah and Sarah. (Jacob, Ephraim, to Stephen, etc.--who is brother to Thomas E. father of your Thomas Poyer Scofield.
I have been looking at the Revolutionary War records and it appears that the Jacob Scofield from Stamford who was pensioned from the War was Jacob son of Samuel and Hannah (Lounsbury.) He was born 1749 and died 1822 to be buried in the Simsbury Cemetery in Stamford by that cemeteries records.
I was surprised to find in the Public Records of the State of Connecticut January 25 & 27, 1777 record of another Jacob Scofield from Stamford who was convicted as a Loyalist and was receiving judgement that upon payment of a 1,000 pound bond he could be released from Lebanon Prison to go home bound to good behavior.
I am looking for additional information to determine for sure if this is our Jacob or some other. At this point I have not been able to find anything that would rule out Jacob son of Josiah. I do have information confirming that Josiah was a Loyalist.
On the other hand I also found, as young as he was, Ephraim Scofield is listed as serving the Dutchess County, 7th Regiment under Ludington.
Can you add anything to this?
Peace to you,
