Yesterday, I was in Hayesville, NC looking for information on my SCROGGS connection.I wound up buying the Clay Co Heritage book at the library. If you are really interested in the SCROGGS in Hayesville, you should get it.It was 55.65 but the information is priceless (at least for me). Here's what's in there on your folks (abbreviated by me):
Virginia Angeline Martin SCROGGS was the daugher of James Jasper and Rebecca SCROGGS born in Cherokee Co (now Clay Co),NC.James Jasper was the oldest child of Enos and Jane SCROGGS, b.Macon Co 24 Jul 1832 d.Clay Co 15 Aug 1910.Enos was the son of David and Martha Moore SCROGGS who came from Iredell Co
to western NC. Enos b.12 Mar 1807 d. 10 Sep 1857. He was (according the the CC Heritage information)the first of the SCROGGS name to come to the area that was to become Clay County but died before the formation of that county.
Hope this helps.I'm not promoting the book but if you're interested in the Hayesville SCROGGS....
