Roadblocks in family research

My family is trying to find relatives of my great granddad and great uncle that we think came from Ireland around 1870. These 2 gentleman came to Ga but we think they had a brother or cousin that stayed in the NY area. Their names are James and Ed Scull(e)y but we don't know what the other gentleman's name was. We've also been told the gentleman may be Vin Scully's (sportcaster) granddad. I would love any info.
