Help! Daniel Scully-Albany, NY 1847

Does anyone have any suggestions or clues where to possibly look for the following, we have been able to find much from 1847 forward but cannot find any leads to get us past Cohoes, NY
The family we have arrived at some point around 1847.
Father, Daniel Scully Mother, Mary ?
Children born in Ireland: Margaret, Michael, John, & Patrick
youngest 2 girls Ellen & Mary A were born around 1851-1853 somewhere in New York. This family is not on the NY 1850 Census at all,yet all records for the youngest 2 girls all say born in NY. The family first appears on the 1860 Census for Cohoes, Albany, NY. As usual all descendants seem to be named for others in the family and most are buried in a cemetery in Cohoes that is pretty well non-existent (best kept secret in Cohoes!) and of course there are no records or church records (this family belonged to St.Bernard's parish for over 50 years and they have "No records" of any kind.
The father Daniel was born between 1802-1812 in Ireland and died in 1868. The father was first listed in the earliest found copy of a city directory for Cohoes in 1866 as Denis Scully with of course other variations of the last name at many times. Sculley, Scullay......
We know they entered somewhere and did not just plop into the Albany area but we have run out of places to look. To make things even more complicated, there is another Scully branch, a Michael Scully, who seems to run along side with ours, with a few of his children as boarders later on in our branches home. Also one of the later sons. Michael Scully, was also a asst. Pastor at St. Bernard's for a short time. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions we would be most grateful.
