A cutting from a N.Y. newspaper (1868) reads as follows :
On this day 5 June Lieut. James F.Scully, Co. H, Third Regt. Bendix Zouaves. All friends and members of the above Regiment are respectfully invited to attend the funeral from the residence of Wm. O'Donnell No. 210 3rd Avenue this Sunday afternoon at 2 O'Clock. Dublin (Ireland) papers please copy.
James was born in Tipperary town in 1837, son of Richard Scully and Johanna Looby. The N.A. in Washington have been unable to give me any information on his army career
(I think he may ave been transferred from some other unit at the end of the Civil War, but Civil War buffs might know if 3rd Regt. Coy. H has any significance) To confuse things a bit more there was another Pte. James Scully in the Bendix Zouaves who ended up as a Lieut. in the 43rd Col. Inf. Regt but not related in any way.
Can anyone throw some light on this mystery ?
