Hi, Patricia. Sorry I missed your message of 2008 but then that was in reply to mine of 2002 so we could call this a slow-motion correspondence. Anyway I found it while browsing and delighted to find a Scully connection in Canada.
The story starts about 1840 when two younger sons of Edmund Scully and Marianne O'Brien emigrated to Canada.
They were Denis Jeremiah born 1814 and John O'Brien born 1816. John O'Brien Scully died in Toronto 1876. His wife was Maria Ellice but that's all I know. I know a lot more about Denis Jeremiah. He was a customs official at Sarnia, married Hannah Anastasia McFaul in 1844 They had 7 children, Hannah b. 1845, James O'Brien b. 1845, Mary Frances b. 1849, Ann b. 1856, Edmund Ignatius 1860, Archibald Thomas b. 1862. Hannah McFaul d. 1862. Edmund m. again to a Catherine Corrigan in 1864. 4 more children,
Walter b. 1865, Jeremiah Augustus b. 1866, Ismena Theresa b. 1868, Francis Xaviour.
Coming now to your line Edmund Ignatius m. Mary Evangelina White in 1884. 4 Daughters and one son, Mary Evangelina b. 1885, Antoinette b. 1886, Christina Isabella b. 1888, Ismena b. 1891, Edmund James b. 1893.
Coming back to the first immigrants, they had an older brother Rodolf who became a lawyer in London who m. Agnes Payne in 1838. They had only one child (most unlike the Scullys)a daughter named Ismena. She received the estate at Mt. Bruis, Co. Tipperary in his will and when she died in Dublin in 1911 she left it to Edmund Ignatius. So that is what Edmund Ignatius was doing in Dubln in 1912. His daughter Christine was with him when they called on my grandfather John Scully. My mother Marjorie Scully was a teenager at the time and enjoyed meeting her Canadian cousin. Darby Scully of Silverfort, Co. Tipperary was a lawyer as well as a landowner and acted as agent for the overseas Scullys (all cousins). Chriatina's sister Ismena had been drowned in a boating accident on the lake at Toronto in 1910. If you want to know more about the Irish side, let me know.
