I have just recieved today at my local library the 1860 census for Shiawassee Co., Mich.(This is a neighboring county of Ingham, Clinton, Gratiot, Genesee, etc.) So far I have found Robert Skutt born abt 1803 in New York, with his wife Elizabeth. Living next to him is Amansa born abt 1835 in New York, and Caroline Ru... born abt 1838 in New York. I believe Amansa and Caroline are robert's children. Living next to Amansa is Hannah (Skutt) Sumner born abt 1809 in New York. Hannah is my gr gr grandmother. They were living in Middlebury Twp. in 1860. She married Francis Sumner from Mass. Their first 3 children, Louisa, Harrison and Eva (Eve) were born in New York. Sometime between 1838 and 1841 Francis and Hannah, along with Robert and Elizabeth came to Mich. I am trying to find out where in New York they were from. I will finish reading the census this weekend and will post any other Skutt/Scutt names I find. Thanks for any help.
