Judging from the fact that I don't see any SONTAG births in early South Dakota and the BLM record shows that Henry patented in 1884, Beadle Co., Twp. 112 - 62 (Fairfield), Sec. 21 SE (about eight miles north and three west of Huron), he might have been the Henry of Shellsburg, Canton Twp., Benton Co., IA, on the FamilySearch database of the census of 1880: SONTAG, Henry J., carpenter, 50, he & parents b. Germany; wf. Clara, 38, OH VA VA; ch. b. IA: Edna, 19; Charles, 16; Mila, 13; James, 10; & Carl, 3. In 1878, he was listed as carpenter and joiner. Is this the right Henry?
