From the Evening Huronite newspaper, Huron, SD; dated April 15, 1939 Obituary LEWIS SCHULZ Lewis Schulz was born in Howard, Iowa, July 31, 1864, and died at Huron on April 6, 1939. He spent his boyhood and attended school in Howard. He came to South Dakota in 1880 and took up land near Lake Byron. In 1881 he was employed in the construction of the railroad from Huron to Pierre. On July 21, 1886, he was married to Carrie Deeg, and lived on a farm in Milford Township for many years. During this time he was engaged in threshing throughout the county. In 1914 he retired from farming and moved to Huron where he resided until the time of his death. His health for many years had not been good, but nevertheless he had a cheery smile, and his pleasing personality and words of encouragement were an inspiration to all those who knew him. Mr. Schulz was a charter member of the Loyal Order of the Moose and of the I.O.L. Surviving are his wife and son, Frank of Huron, one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Northey of Huron; two grand-children, Neola Schulz of Huron and Fern Nelsen of Stickney, South Dakota. An only daughter preceded him in death in 1918. Funeral services were held at the Kinyon Funeral Chapel on Saturday April 8, the Rev. John Ward Smith of Grace Episcopal Church officiating.
