Hi Thomas - thanks for the followup. Just this morning I found the following: Eva Roeder Greiner died April 28, 1922 in Rock Valley, Iowa. She was born in Preist, Trier, Germany on August 14, 1844. She came to the US when she was 28 years old (~1872). She lived in Dubuque, Iowa a total of 19 years then relocated to Rock Valley, Iowa (~1891). The only immediate relatives living at the time of her death were her son Nickolas and his family (wife and two sons). This would tell me her sister preceeded her in death. The service was performed at St. Mary's Church in Rock Valley by a Father Roeder from Alvord, Iowa.

Her sister's husband Peter Kohl died in Alvord, Iowa, March 15, 1895 but I can't find an obituary - only a one sentence notice in the Rock Valley "Bee". I assume she moved to Sioux Falls, SD after his death. I know they had one son for sure (maybe more children). I would think she would have known someone in Sioux Falls since she moved there rather than to Rock Valley (only a few miles away) to be near her sister. Another member said he found an obituary for a Margaret Kohl who died in Yankton, SD in 1919 but I tried looking it up with no luck. I also can't find Peter in census records between 1870-1900. I did a search in searchfamily.org on just Peter/Petrus Kohl in the international databases and looked up the spouse in each one but found no matches.

Since the marriage record I found for Margaret/Peter says they married in Auw, Bitburg - which is only a few miles outside Preist - I'm pretty sure I'm right about havin the "right" Margaret. I also found an article in the Rock Valley "Bee" on 7-1-1910 about Eva and Nic being called to Sioux Falls by the death of Eva's nephew when a bridge collapsed while he was crossing it with a wagon full of hay. I don't have that obit - perhaps lists more survivors. Thanks again!
