Surprise! Daniel's father was Daniel.

There are DONOVAN / DONAVAN burials at St. Martin's Catholic Cem., Emery, Pleasant Twp., Section 26, Hanson Co., SD.

Daily Republic, Mitchell, SD, 7 Feb. 1899, p. 2: Daniel K. DONOVAN d. 6 Feb. 1899, aged 72, bu. Elk Point, Union Co., SD {southeastern corner of the state}.

Mitchell, SD, 1 Aug. 1908, p. 3: Ellen DONOVAN, wid/o Daniel, d. 30 July 1908, Ethan, SD. She was born in County Cook {sic, Cork?}, Ireland, 1828, came to the US in 1838 {1843?} m. at age 20 in New York to Daniel DONOVAN. In 1852, they moved to Galena, IL. She was buried at Elk Point beside her husband. She was survived by three children, Daniel & Michael of Ethan, & William of Kendall, MT.

Mrs. Katherina (Catherine) A. DONOVAN d. 23 July 1921, aged 65-7-15, Mitchell, wife of D. J. DONOVAN. She was born in Georgia, dau/o Mary KEWELY & Michael P. ENRIGHT, both b. Ireland [Noble Funeral Home record].

There are Homestead land patents for Daniel J. & Daniel K. See BLM records online. Death certificates began mid-1905 in SD, so those should be available for all but Daniel K.
