Dorothy,
Just a few weeks ago, I was made aware of a record from a Lancaster Pennsylvania church, the First Presbyterian Church, that my great great grandfather, James Brooks was married to my grandmother, Mary J Carter, in their church, but that James was listed as "Cebrooks". I am taking a genealogy course from an amazing instructor who is helping me to understand that many records are spelled phonically. James and Mary Cebrooks moved to Macomb Michigan and are ever after listed as James and Mary Brooks. I am beginning to feel that this is accurate information because the dates match other information within the family records. Your post is the first that I have found that gives some confirmation from someone else. I have to tell you that I have been rather blown away to find that I may really not be a Brooks because the name has so defined who I think I am! I would love to learn more and I am so hoping that we can make contact even after the passing of 10 years!
