Hi,
Knox Co., KY tax records: http://www.comteck.com/~jjackson/knox.htmlhttp://www.comteck.com/~jjackson/knox.html
(first appearance)
Joseph Seagrave 1802
William Seagrave 1806
Joseph Whitaker 1809
Grants South of the Green River:
Rebecca Seagraves, 154 acres, 2/8/1806, Knox Co., KY, Clover Fork Cumberland River
Seagrove, Wm., 60 acres, 2/12/1806, Knox Co., KY, Clover Fork Cumberland River
(Note: these two surveys were later sold to Joseph Seagrave and were located on Seagraves Creek in Harlan Co., KY.The closest court house to Seagrave Creek from 1800 to 1819 was at Jonesville, Lee Co., VA. About 14 miles, next was Tazewell, Claiborne Co., TN, abt. 34 miles and then Barbourville, KY, abt 37 miles. Marriage records for Lee Co., VA of this period are missing.)
There are several Harlan Co., KY deeds naming Joseph Whitaker, Seagraves and Jones at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~seky/datafile/coct/deedbka.htmlhttp://www.rootsweb.com/~seky/datafile/coct/deedbka.html
Joseph Seagrave b. abt, 1780 - d. abt. 1835 married Mary Jones abt. 1803. Joseph Seagraves is said to be the son of Samuel Seagrave and Mary Rodgers of VA. Mary Jones was the daughter of Stephen Jones and Susannah Wilborn. Joseph Seagrave lived in Knox/Harlan Co., Ky until abt. 1825 when he moved to Flat Gap in present day Johnson Co., KY.
Stephen Jones, an Am. Rev. Vet, may be the brother of John Jones of Claiborne Co., TN. Some believe Stephen's father was Ambrose Jones however I believe it may have been Gabriel Jones.
