I agree that there is probably a connection.I will try to look into the Hewitts in NJ a little further.Sarah Hewitt Seagraves said in the 1880 census that she and both her parents were born in Ohio, but in an earlier census she said they were all born in Old NW.That would include Ohio, which became a state in 1803, the year she was born. She was born 3 March. There couldn't have been much in the way of settlements when her father was born-maybe just military outposts and such.I don't know much about that part. The Ohio Company was started in 1747 which I think was mostly a fur trading company?
Correction:It was Tarver SEAGRAVES who married Rachel Rhuble. That Tarver was one of the 6 or so sons of "Old Tarver" and Elizabeth Paullin. Son Paullin Seagraves(1795) had an 1827 Tarver who m Margaret Ann Mulford (granddaughter of the Hewitts), who was my friend's gt grandfather.
The Tarver b 1809 and Rachel Rhuble were in Howard Co in early 1820s, in Jackson twp in 1850s, and I think he married Jerusha Wentworth and lived in Howard Co. Indiana. He had a son, Tarver, b about 1847."Old Tarver" had a son Luther (1803-c 1850) in Howard Co Indiana ,who had a Tarver born abt 1837 and a grandson who was 3 in 1880.
So Old Tarver had at least 3 grandsons, including Tarver Hewitt, who were his namesakes. Maybe more. I had a lot of trouble figuring out who Tarver who m. Rachel Rhuble was because I kept running into that marriage when searching for Paullin's Tarver.
I have often wondered whether the old Tarver's mother's maiden name might have been Tarver. I don't have a wife for Onesimus Seagraves, but you don't run into many other Tarvers outside the family. But maybe its because I'm not looking elsewhere!
