Dear Janet,
If your ancestor's name were really George, then he was probably an Englishman, not a Bavarian. Pennsylvania was a jumping-off place for many Germans & Bavarians, but I suspect he was English. KY is where my Sebastians went. The Ohio River there, seemed to remind them of the Rhine River back "home" near Bavaria.
