I am starting a search on my g-g-grandfather.I found out that he was born Secor or Secord but his father died when he was an infant and his mother's brother adopted him. Here is his obituary:William Straub was born in Tilsenburg, Canada on September 15, 1854 and passed away at his home in Tipton, Iowa on Jan. 20, 1934, age 79 years, 4 months and 5 days. His father died when he was a baby. When he was 5 years old,he came with his mother to the United States, settling in Scott County, Iowa.He was adopted at this time by an uncle. When William was 16 years old he moved to Muscatine County. On October 28, 1875 he was married to Mary E Bond.To this union 4 children were born.Brother Straub was converted early in life in the German Methodist Church. He moved to Tipton, Iowa in 1907....... I found a handwritten family tree recorded several years ago by William's grandson (now deceased) in the Tipton Public Library that states his mother's name was Anna and father is listed as ?? Secor(d).The 1880 Iowas census states he was born in Tilsenburg, Ontario,Canada . I assume Tilsenburg is really Tillsonburg in Oxford County, CA.Unfortunately this is all I have on William.Any ideas where I might start searching next. From what I've discovered, William's birth record might not be recorded since it was before 1869. Thanks, Rita
