With the Secord’s, I sort of knew where it was going. With the Linington’s, I can only look around a bit. In my last posting we apparently had: BENJAMIN CORNELIUS LINNINGTON (LININGTON) b. 1875, d. 1955, m. HARRIET EMILY MISENER (b. 1871, d. 15MAR1937), d/o Francis and Fanny (Hawley) Misener. In Dumfries Twp. South, Wentworth & Brant Counties North, Ontario, in the 1901 census, is the family: Ben C. Lennington b. 31AUG1873 Harriett E. Lennington b. 3MAR1871 Norman Lennington b. 18MAR1891 Walter S. Lennington b. 16FEB1894 ‘Hazle’ M. Lennington b. 12OCT1896 Sarah E. Lennington b. 26NOV1898 Also, ‘next door’ (that is, just before Ben and his family) were: John? Lennington b. 16FEB1842 Mary Lennington b. 16JUL1845 which may be Ben’s parents. In the same area was: Albert Lennington b. 15OCT1846 working for Eliza J. Clump. Also, in Beverly Twp. William Linnington b. 19DEC(1891?, age 10) boarding with Joseph and Sarah J. Harfeer. While finding Ben’s parents may be tricky, they could be the John and Mary in 1901; but, in Walsingham Twp., Norfolk Co. North, ONT in 1881, there was a family: Lemuel Lennington b. ca. 1841, b. ONT, farmer, C. Methodist Elizabeth Lennington b. ca. 1851 Hiram J. Lennington b. ca. 1871 Benjamin Lennington b. ca. 1875 Earnest Lennington b. ca. 1877 Arthur Lennington b. ca. 1880 which is interesting, as Norfolk Co. is one place I would expect to find Secord’s in Ontario. I don’t find Ben in Brant Co. in 1881, however, in Dumfries Twp. South, Brant Co., North, are John Lenington, b. ca. 1843, carpenter, German, b. ONT, C. Methodist; with a wife, Mary, b. USA ca. 1844, also C. Methodist. Perhaps Lemuel and Elizabeth are Ben’s parents, and John an uncle? At: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~births/Le_Ln_Surnames.htm is: #006599-98 (Bruce Co) LENNINGTON, Sarah Elizabeth, f, b. 22 Nov.1898, father- Benjamin Cornelius LENNINGTON, labourer; mother - Harriet Emily MISENER, infm – G.W. Barber MD, South Dumfries twp Note that this differs slightly with Sarah’s birth-date in the 1901 census. This is not uncommon, and I have found the 1901 census often has discrepancies like this; usually being off by one year. At a series of postings on the history of Brant Co., especially at: http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/UPPER-CANADA/1999-05/0926190364 is: con't United Empire Loyalist settlers in Burford and Oakland Townships Those who received grants as Loyalists, as appears by the Crown Lands records, included Eliakim Malcolm & his brothers James, Hugh, Charles and Duncan ,all sons of Finlay Malcolm; Eleanor Doyle, dau of Benjamin Doyle; Lavina Sage, wife of Allan Sage & dau of John File; Elizabeth Lennington of Dumfries wife of William L & dau of David VanEvery; Eleanor Ellis wife of Henry & dau of Ed.McMichael of Walsingham; Anna Mudge, Dumfries, wife of Ed. These were all recipients of grants of 100 or 200 acres each. to be con't with a listing of those from the area who received grants for service during the War of 1812. John Overholt, Kingston upon Thames,Eng Some interesting features here. We have: Elizabeth Lennington of Dumfries wife of William L & dau of David VanEvery where William and Elizabeth (Van Every) Lennington may be the ancestors of Benjamin Cornelius Lennington, and likely Loyalists, and the Van Every’s are very distant cousins of mine; so your husband and I may be related through the Jaycocks (multiple variations in spelling) of Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England; Stratford, Connecticut (ca. 1641) and of Hempstead, Long Island, New York (1650’s-1660’s.) Also, note: Dan Secord jr, Grand River, son of Daniel Secord and: Asa Secord, Oakland, son of John S Actually, Hempstead, Long Island, NY may be where the Linnington/Lennington/etc. family is from; see: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~dav4is/ODTs/LINNINGTON.shtml#LINN112 especially: LENINGTON, William C. b: 25 Dec 1792 _, Dutchess, NY d: 10 Oct 1856 _, ON, CAN m.
