My husband has a solid paper trail back to William Secord, Loyalist, who came to what is now New Brunswick, Canada, from New York in the 1780s. Elias Secord, who also came to NB, is said to be his brother. My husband has had DNA testing done on his y-chromosome, which is passed down from father to son all the way along the male line, largely unchanged except for occasional mutations. I have compared his results to those of a descendant of a Niagara Secord line, plus a Secor and a Seacord who come from Ambroise Sicard lines that stayed in the US at the time of the Revolutionary War. The Niagara Secord matches the Secor and the Seacord, confirming their paper trails back to Ambroise. My husband DOES NOT match the other three. This calls into question the accuracy of the assumption that William and Elias descend from Ambroise Sicard. There is evidently a disconnect somewhere on my husband's supposed paper trail back to Ambroise, and the parentage of William is by far the weakest link. Further testing of William and Elias descendants is needed in order to determine where the disconnect happened. For more information, please contact me.
