Donna, my name is Verla Secrest McCain I have worked on the Secrest History for years. I live in Monroe N.C. (Union CO.) within two miles of where Samuel T and Jemina are buried at Secrest/ Penegar cemetery and within one mile of where I was born and raised. My cousin and I clean it up every year, it was almost destroyed when a houseing develpment went up around it. His brother B.C and daughter Jennie Penegar are also buried their. I have pictures of it if you would like copies.
My line is Jacob and Barbra Simms
Andrew married Nancy Winchester - believed to have been killed in the war and never came home
Samuel T married Jamima Medlin
Samuel McKey married Martha Jane Alexander
Lafayette A. married Ellen Pressley
Mark Hannah Secrest married Mazie Helms my mother and father
Samuel McKey, Lafayette, and my father are buried aat New Salem Baptist Church on Goldmine Road, a quarter of a mile of where I was born and raised. I have proof of all my history from Jacob and Barbra's land sale 1761 to wills, death, birth, land deeds and documents of every thing from Mecklenburg and Union County. Lots of people don't realiae that until 1842 Union was Mecklenburg and before that Meck. was Rowan County.
